“First Class Concierge Dive Operation ”
Visited July, 2018
I have dived with Dive Grenada for three consecutive years, each time in May.
Helen and Phil, the owners, are great, as well as the dive staff, Cojack, Shyheim, Brittany and Captain Keiron.
When you arrive at the shop for the morning two tank dive, your gear is already set up at the shop. The divemasters bring it to the boat together with water, juice and a snack (sometimes Helen bakes delicious chocolate chip cookies!).
I am an accomplished diver and usually set up my own gear but I easily got used to this service. They also change over your tanks for the 2nd dive. The maximum number of divers on the boat, I believe, is 8, although it is generally 3-6 people, with ample room.
You enter the water via a back roll and a good sturdy ladder is available on your return. Most of the dives were drift dives, although a couple were at moorings (I.e. Sculpture Park). On one dive, the Shaken Wreck, we did a negatively buoyant entry and descent, my first in 25 years of diving.
Exellent instruction and supervision on the boat by everyone. Cojack and Shyheim found all types of critters for us. Multiple moray eels (green, spotted, golden), multiple lobsters (sometimes 2 to a crevice), scorpion fish and what I call the "usual suspects" (angel fish, grunts, snapper, soldier fish, etc.).
They also found for us jaw fish, yellow jaw fish (swimming in the open), 3 horn-quill blenny, multiple stingrays, large and small crabs, a pipefish, and a turtle.
The exotic finds for me were the seahorse and frogfish. I am an underwater photographer and last May my camera flooded (no damage and no loss of pictures though).
I rented a camera from Phil and Helen which took excellent pictures. If you dive with them this year, my Fish Calendar is displayed in the shop, and several pictures are from this camera. I cannot recommend Dive Grenada more highly. In fact, I stayed at a different hotel this time and either Phil or Helen picked me up each morning so I could avoid the 15 minute walk (I did walk back though). I dove with Dive Grenada even though there was a more convenient dive shop at my hotel on the beach. I look forward to diving with them again next May, unless I can visit them in September. --Jim S.
